Lower Mustang Trek

Highlights

  • You can travel to this region at any time of the year. Even during the summer months, when the rest of the country is affected by the monsoon. Being in one of the driest areas and due to its altitude, it is not usually affected by rainfall. Great news for those who can only travel to Nepal during the summer holidays.
  • You will immerse yourself in the purest Tibetan culture. Nepal is a country dominated by Hindu culture, but Mustang is an exception. You can discover the other side of Nepal, learn about Buddhism, and about Tibetan culture in general, through the architecture, customs and traditions characteristics of the local people in the area.
  • No great physical preparation is required. Unlike other known treks in Nepal, in Lower Mustang you will not find great elevations and the route is suitable for anyone who wants to enjoy the mountains without having to make great efforts.
  • Very different landscape from other areas of Nepal. Its arid mountains will make you feel like you are on another planet. The green hills and rice terraces are left far behind.
  • Easy access, the town of Jomsom has an airport. So, in a very short time, you can reach Mustang starting from Pokhara. Open your eyes and let yourself be surprised by these incredible mountains seen from the air.
  • You will find very homely traditional accommodations despite being one of the less touristy routes, the offer of hostels and family homes is quite good and at very affordable prices.
  • Possibility of observing native wildlife in this area of the Annapurna, some animals such as the blue sheep or the fascinating snow leopard.
  • In addition to Tibetan cuisine, in some villages such as Marpha, you can stop to rest while savoring their delicious apple pie accompanied by a glass of brandy.

Overview

TREKKING IN LOWER MUSTANG

Ancient kingdom of Mustang, one of the 7 ancient kingdoms of the Himalayas, which today belongs to Nepal, is located in the northwest of the Annapurna Conservation Area and is divided into Upper Mustang and Lower Mustang. And it is the latter that we are going to explore. You will discover why Lower Mustang is the ideal destination for your next trekking Adventure.
