Best Locations for Street Photography

  1. Durbar Square: Start your tour at the heart of Kathmandu. Durbar Square is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to palaces, courtyards, and temples. The architectural details and the bustling atmosphere make it a perfect spot for street photography with experienced photographer at Himalayan Yogi.
  2. Thamel: Known as the tourist hub, Thamel is full of narrow streets lined with shops, cafes, and street vendors. Capture the energy of the crowds, the colorful storefronts, and the vibrant nightlife.
  3. Asan Market: One of the oldest markets in Kathmandu, Asan is a sensory overload with its spice vendors, vegetable stalls, and local shoppers. The market's chaotic charm offers endless photographic opportunities.
  4. Pashupatinath Temple: For a more spiritual aspect, visit Pashupatinath Temple. The temple complex on the banks of the Bagmati River provides a serene backdrop with sadhus, pilgrims, and rituals to photograph.
  5. Boudhanath Stupa: This stupa is another UNESCO World Heritage Site and a focal point for the Tibetan Buddhist community. The area around Boudhanath is perfect for capturing monks in their robes, prayer wheels, and the stupa's intricate details.

  1. Respect Local Customs: Be mindful of cultural sensitivities. Always ask for permission before taking close-up shots of people, especially in religious areas.
  2. Blend In: Dress modestly and try to blend in with the locals to capture more candid moments.
  3. Be Patient: Street photography requires patience. Spend time observing your surroundings and waiting for the perfect moment.
  4. Focus on Details: Kathmandu is rich in textures and details. Look for interesting patterns, colors, and contrasts that tell a story.
  5. Engage with Locals: Building rapport with the locals can lead to more authentic and meaningful photographs. Learn a few Nepali phrases to break the ice.
