Overview

This 15-day journey begins in Kathmandu with cultural sightseeing and preparation before heading west to Besisahar, the gateway to the Annapurna region. The mountain biking route follows the classic Annapurna Circuit trail, gradually ascending through the Marsyangdi Valley to Manang. A dedicated acclimatization day ensures proper adaptation before tackling the demanding side trip to Tilicho Lake—one of the highest lakes in the world.

The highlight of the adventure is the crossing of Thorong La Pass (5,416 m), one of the highest rideable mountain passes on earth, followed by an exhilarating descent into the Kali Gandaki Valley. The route continues through Mustang’s wind-swept landscapes, traditional Thakali villages, and apple orchards before ending in Pokhara. The journey concludes with a return to Kathmandu for final sightseeing and departure.

This expedition is ideal for strong intermediate to advanced mountain bikers with good physical fitness and prior experience at altitude. The trip combines challenging rides, breathtaking scenery, and rich Himalayan culture into one unforgettable adventure.

Itinerary

Day 01 : Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400 m)

Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. Meet our representative and transfer to your hotel in Kathmandu. After some rest, enjoy a short walk around Thamel to recover from your journey. In the evening, a welcome dinner and detailed trip briefing covering safety, altitude awareness, and bike setup.

Day 02 : Kathmandu Valley Cultural Visit

A guided cultural tour of Kathmandu Valley offers an introduction to Nepal’s rich history, spirituality, and architecture. Key highlights include Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) with panoramic city views, Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal’s most sacred Hindu site on the Bagmati River, and Boudhanath Stupa, one of the world’s largest Buddhist stupas. The visit is completed with time in Kathmandu Durbar Square, showcasing ancient palaces, temples, and traditional Newari craftsmanship.

Day 03 : Drive Kathmandu – Besisahar (760 m)

Scenic drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar, the gateway to the Annapurna region. The route follows rivers, terraced hillsides, and rural villages. Final bike checks and preparation in the evening.

Day 04 : Ride Besisahar (760m) – Tal (1,700 m)

The MTB adventure begins. Ride along mixed jeep tracks and suspension bridges through Bahundanda and Jagat. The trail gradually enters a narrow gorge with waterfalls and dramatic cliffs before reaching Tal village.

Day 05 : Ride Tal – Chame (2,670 m)

Continue riding through pine forests and along the Marsyangdi River. Pass through Dharapani and enjoy views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. Terrain becomes more alpine as you approach Chame, the district headquarters of Manang.

DAy 06 : Ride Chame – Manang (3,540 m)

A spectacular ride through Pisang with dramatic views of Annapurna II, III, IV, and Gangapurna. The trail alternates between smooth sections and rocky climbs. Arrival in Manang, a beautiful high-altitude village with strong Tibetan influence.

Day 07 : Acclimatization Day – Ice Lake Hike (4,600m)

Rest and acclimatization day in Manang. Optional hike to Ice Lake for panoramic Himalayan views or explore local monasteries and the Manang Cultural Museum. Essential for altitude adaptation.

Day 08 : Ride Manang – Tilicho Base Camp (4,150 m)

Ride toward Khangsar village and continue on a rugged trail to Tilicho Base Camp. The route is exposed and challenging, with breathtaking high-mountain scenery.

Overnight: Basic lodge at Tilicho Base Camp

Day 09 : Hike Tilicho Lake (4,919m) – Ride to Yak Kharka (4,050 m)

Early morning hike to Tilicho Lake, one of the highest lakes in the world. After returning to base camp, descend by bike toward Yak Kharka, enjoying long downhill sections.

DISTANCE: ~8 km (hike) Ride 23.7km  ELEVATION: +820m / -920m  DURATION: 6  Hours Total

Day 10 : Ride Yak Kharka – Thorang Phedi (4,540 m)

Short but demanding ride with gradual altitude gain. The landscape becomes more barren and dramatic as you approach the base of Thorong La Pass.

Day 11 : Hike to Thorg La Pass (5,416 m) – Ride to Muktinath (3,800 m)

An early alpine start to cross the iconic Thorong La Pass. After reaching the pass, enjoy an epic downhill ride to Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists.

DISTANCE: ~5.2km hike, 13.2km ride   ELEVATION: +900m / -1,640m  DURATION: 3 Hours hike, 1 hour ride

Overnight: Lodge in Muktinath

Day 12 : Ride Muktinath – Kalapani (2,530 m)

Descend into the Kali Gandaki Valley, riding through Jomsom and Marpha (famous for apple orchards). The trail offers fast descents and changing landscapes from dry Mustang to greener valleys.

DISTANCE: ~45.6 km ELEVATION: +200m / -1,470m DURATION: 3 Hours

Overnight: Lodge in Kalopani

Day 13 : Ride Kalapani – Tatopani (1,239m) / Drive to Pokhara (822m)

Final riding day with a long descent to Tatopani. Enjoy a relaxing soak in natural hot springs before driving to Pokhara, Nepal’s lakeside adventure hub.

Day 14 : Fly Pokhara – Kathmandu and kathmandu sight seeing

Early this morning, we take a scenic domestic flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Weather permitting, the short flight offers breathtaking aerial views of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges before descending into the Kathmandu Valley. Upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel and enjoy a well-earned rest after the adventure in the mountains.

Later in the day, we explore some of Kathmandu’s most iconic cultural landmarks. Visits may include the ancient Kathmandu Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, and the serene Boudhanath Stupa—one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world. This gentle sightseeing experience provides a meaningful cultural conclusion to the journey and a chance to reflect on the adventure before depart
