Overview

Tamang Heritage trail is a moderate Himalayan Adventure at Rasuwa District of Langtang region, lies in the north side of Nepal & closer to Tibet China Border. This Trek provides you a wonderful insight & deeper experience of Tamang community by observing and involving yourself into their traditions, rituals, vibrant culture, daily life, as you will stay in traditional homestays and sharing love with local Tamang families. Their traditions include the unique Tamang “selo” music and dance, the “Damphu” instrument and major festivals like “Sonam Lhosar”, celebrated with traditional food “sel roti” and community gatherings.

This 10 days Program begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi and passes through forest, farmlands and authentic Tamang settlements including Gatlang, Tatopani, Nagthali, Timure, Thuman and Bridhim, where the way of life, culture, crafts, and traditions have persisted since colonization. So, this Tamang heritage trail gives you an unparalleled opportunity to connect with Nepal’s one of the most authentic and culturally rich indigenous community.

This short Gurung Heritage trail is not only popular for the cultural understanding but also for spectacular hilly landscapes, panoramic mountain vistas including Langtang Lirung (7,227m), Ganesh Himal (7,422m), Shishapangma (8,013m) and many more ranges along the trek, and possibility of spotting Himalayan wild animals like Red Panda, Himalayan Thar, Musk Deer and langur monkeys.

Itinerary

Day 01 : Arrival at Kathmandu (1,400m)

Upon arrival, one of our Representative will give you a warm welcome first and then accompany you to the Hotel. In the evening, we will have a meeting at the hotel to brief you on the entire trip.

Day 02 : Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,460m)

Scenic Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi passes through rivers, green hills and narrow roads. After a long road journey, we will reach today’s staying place, Syabrubesi which is also the gateway to Langtang Region.

Distance: 122km |Duration: 7-8 hours |Ascent: +100m |Descent: -40m

Day 03 : Syabrubesi to Gatlang (2,238m)

Our first day of the trail, after having breakfast, we will ascend through concrete staircase to the Tsamkhang Stupa (place to do Buddhist rituals and prayers by Local community of Tamang people). Enjoy the beautiful valley from Stupa and descend toward Goljung. Keep walking and finally we will arrive at Gatlang. An authentic beautiful Tamang village where you will explore mesmerizing Parvati Kunda and ancient Tamang Monastery.

Distance: 11km |Duration: 5hours | Ascent: +900m |Descent: -120m  

Day 04 : Gatlang to Tatopani (2,607m)

Today, after passing through traditional settlements of Tamang natives, suspension bridge, Gong gang village, several ascends and descends, we will reach Tatopani. As we approach Tatopani (which means “hot water” in Nepali), we can see views of the Langtang range and Ganesh Himal. Tatopani is famous for its natural hot springs, where you can relax in a mountain bath believed to relieve aches and pains. Today’s trek also offers insights into the Tamang culture.

Day 05 : Tatopani to Nagthali (3,165m)

Today is the shortest day and highest point of the whole trek as we pass through alpine jungles, (possibility to spot Monkeys & deers) and Brimdang Village (a small but traditionally rich Tamang village). Reaching Nagthali, we will see the stunning panoramic views of mountains including Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal. Nagthalli is also used to be a former meditation center for local Monks.

Distance: 4.4km |Duration: 2:21 hours | Ascent: +600m |Descent: -50m  

Day 06 : Nagthali to Timure (1,762m)

Early morning, we will see the Golden sunrise reflecting the snow-capped mountains from the top of Nagthali. Then, we will have traditional breakfast and head towards Timure as we pass through Traditional and beautiful tamang village of Thuman, traditional tamang settlements, monasteries, prayer flags and Bhote Koshi river. After Keep walking and we will reach timure, an authentic Tamang village near Tibet-Nepal Border.

Day 07 : Hike to Rasuwagadhi (1,800m) and back to Timure

Today, after breakfast we will hike towards Rasuwagadhi, a historical and ancient trade route between Nepal and Tibet china. Tamang people also actively involved in trade and transportation at this place. This exchange border between Nepal and Tibet China helps Tamang community to trade, import, export goods and has an important role to earn money in order to make their life easier.

Distance: 6.5km |Duration: 2:23 hours | Ascent: +150m |Descent: -150m  

Day 08 : Timure to Bridhim (2,239m)

Following the Bhote koshi River upstream trail until reaching Lingling, and then climbs uphill until we reach Bridhim. Bridhim is a small Tamang village, which provides knowledge of Himalayan community in the form of Home stay, local foods and their traditions.

Here, we will visit Dukchu Gomba, a former monastery of Tamang community. Tamang people had a deep cultural importance on this monastery because they used to do rituals, prayers and host a festival called “Dawa Dangpo Tsechu”. But it was damaged by 2015 earthquake.

Distance: 8.3km |Duration: 4:35 hours | Ascent: +550m |Descent: -70m  

Day 09 : Bridhim (2,239m) to Syabrubesi (1,460m) and drive to Kathmandu (1,400m)

Today is our last day of Tamang Heritage trail, and now its time to say goodbye to those beautiful villages and peoples. After short hike towards Syabrubesi, we will take a Jeep or Bus to Kathmandu by carrying lots of memories from the trek.

Distance: 6.7km hike, 122km drive |Duration: 3 hours hike, 7-8 hours drive |Ascent: +100m |Descent: -880m 

Day 10 : Final Departure

Transfer to Tribhuwan international Airport for final departure according to your flight time.
